A family-owned restaurant.

A woman speaks to the owner.

Nancy: Do you think that young man will come back?

Jen: Our credit card machine was down.

Nancy: And he’s going to the bank machine?

Jen: That’s what he said. But I told him the bank machine was that way.

Nancy: And he walked the other way.

Jen: And he walked the other way, correct.

Nancy: I can pay for his food.

Jen: No, no, no.

[Pause]

Nancy: You have faith in him?

Jen: I wouldn’t go that far.

Nancy: Do you know him?

Jen: I don’t know him, but…

Nancy: I heard you say turn right and walk a block.

Jen: Yes.

Nancy: So there he goes, turning left.

Jen: There might be a bank machine the other way. I don’t know.

Nancy: There’s no bank machine the other way.

[Pause]

Jen: The machine is working again.

Nancy: I have cash.

Jen: The machine is fine.

Nancy: I’d like to pay for it all with cash.

Jen: All of what?

Nancy: His food, too.

Jen: No. I’m actually not going to let you do that. He might come back. He very well could return.
